Racing got underway Saturday at the Lucas Oil Madison Regatta, with the running of three preliminary heats.
In Heat 1-A, JW Myers took the 11 Miss Peters & May to the front and led for 2¾ laps before Kip Brown in the 17 Miss Red Dot got around him in the final turn to take the victory.
In Heat 1-B, Rookie Jimmy Shane in the 5 Graham Trucking outstarted veteran Steve David in the 6 Oh Boy! Oberto and too the early lead. David used the inside lane to overtake Shane on lap two and went on to the win.
Heat 1-C was all Dave Villwock in the 1 Spirit of Qatar 96. With two boats failing to start, the only competition came from Greg Hopp in the 100 Xtreme Precision Products, who could not run with the fastest qualifier.
Racing resumes Sunday with Heat 2-A at 1pm EDT.
