Dave Villwock survived the Detroit River and an accident filled Sunday to win his 10th Gold Cup.

Wind and water conditions caused three blow-over accidents during the three day event, with Mike Webster in the 22 Great Scott! Presents Matrix Systems getting airborne in a Saturday heat and crashing with serious damage to the boat.

Webster had bumps and bruises but no serious injuries.

JW Meyers in the 11 Peters and May blew over in the big first turn in a Sunday prelim – and Scott Liddycoat in the 88 Degree Men went over in exactly the same spot in a later prelim. Both drivers were uninjured.  Damage to those two boats was less severe and they are expected to be ready for the next stop on the circuit.

In the winner-take-all final, Steve David in the Oh Boy! Oberto secured the inside lane but was unable to hold off Villwock who took the victory from lane two.

J Michael Kelly drove the 37 Miss Beacon Plumbing to a podium finish, taking third.
