The U-11 Miss Peters & May announces Tom Thompson of Cambridge, Maryland as their new driver.  Over Tom’s 27 year boat racing career he has driven every limited inboard hydroplane class, won many World, National and Divisional titles and set several World Records.

JW Myers who injured his shoulder in an accident in Detroit this season said “Having Tommy at the wheel of the U-11 Peters & May in my place is quite comforting, even as a Rookie. Tommy is “The whole package,” he has a resume that well exceeds most of the current Air National Guard H1 drivers. He will represent Peters & May very well, and has very strong family values, everything that Unlimited Racing Group looks for in a driver.”

Tom, inducted to the APBA Hall of Champions for the past three years, said “For as long as I’ve raced, my goal has always been to get to the unlimited level.  I’m excited and honored to be doing that with such a great team. I am thrilled to be representing Peters & May – a sponsor of boats at all levels.”

Scott Raney, Co-Owner and Crew Chief said “We are very excited to have Tom onboard. Drivers like Chip Hanauer, Steve David & Jim Kropfield drove multiple boats in the inboard class for years and that led to their successes.  I believe Tom has the experience and skill set to follow in their accomplished footsteps.”  To reach their decision the owners assessed his ability to drive competitively, fit with the team, and be a good spokesman for the U-11 and Peters & May.

Dave Holley, CEO of Peters & May and Sponsor of the U-11 team, said “We were very upset to hear the news about J Dubs’ latest injury as he has brought so much knowledge to the team and always represented us in a professional manner.  I am pleased with the selection of Tom as his racing record speaks for itself and it’s good to bring new drivers into the Unlimiteds.  Peters & May believes in bringing drivers up through the ranks of racing to keep this great sport growing and we are so pleased that Tom now has his opportunity to take his seat in an unlimited hydroplane.”

Tom will be qualifying to become an Air National Guard Unlimited Driver at the San Diego Bayfair race September 14-16th.  Tom will be joined by his wife of 25 years Chrissy and daughter Savana in San Diego for his first ride in an unlimited hydroplane.  They look forward to becoming part of the U-11 Peters & May family.
