The temperature was near or above 100 degrees all weekend. To fans in the Tri-Cities, that's "boat racing weather."
Organizers of the Lamb-Weston Columbia Cup had reported brisk ticket sales in the weeks leading up to the event and the huge crowds that lined the Columbia River for three days indicated that was true.
A story in Monday's Tri-City Herald says:
The event brought thousands of people to the Kennewick and Pasco
sides of the river. It was too soon Sunday to get an exact count, but
event director Kathy Powell said the crowd topped 70,000 people for the
weekend.
"We were so elated to have such a large crowd this weekend," she said. "It was just phenomenal. Everyone was having fun."
