For those of you planning on attending the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Spirit of Detroit Hydrofest, the weather forecast is spectacular, featuring three days of sunshine, with temperatures predicted to be in the high 70s to low 80s, and the wind speed and direction being absolutely perfect for hydroplane racing.  For those of you not planning on attending, change your plans immediately, and we will find a spot for you.

For the first time, we’re running two races on the same weekend.  Because we are asking a lot of our teams, we have tweaked the rules, so there will be two sets of preliminary heats and a final for Saturday’s President’s Cup, and three sets of preliminary heats and a final for Sunday’s APBA Gold Cup.

We are looking forward to the return of Dave Bartush’s Spirit of Detroit team, with rookie Bert Henderson making his debut in an unlimited hydroplane.  Hopefully, we’ll see other Detroit-based teams back in the sport soon.

Thanks to the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers for stepping up their commitment to this event, by taking on the title sponsorship.  They have been a great partner of hydroplane racing in Detroit for years, and we’re proud to give them the recognition they richly deserve.

If you come down to the Detroit River this weekend, please make sure you stop by and say hello.
