Detroit Announces ITC Holdings as Sponsor

The 2016 UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFestis pleased to announce ITC Holdings Corp., as a returning sponsor for this year’s race.  Through its sponsorship, ITC becomes the Hydroplane Racing League’s (HRL) Grand Prix Hydroplane class sponsor and also receives exclusive naming rights to the Club Gold Cup, the event’s VIP hospitality area, which will become the ITC Club Gold Cup. The announcement was made by Detroit Riverfront Events Inc. President, Mark Weber.

“We are grateful for the continued commitment by ITC, ensuring the return of the popular HRL’s Grand Prix boats, which roar on the river with 500 cubic inch super-charged engines, and promising a top notch experience for our guests in the ITC Club Gold Cup,” said Weber.

The UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest, marking its 100th anniversary this year, is the longest continuously running hydroplane race on the H1 Unlimited circuit. The first sanctioned hydroplane race took place on the Detroit River in 1916. Since 1946, a minimum of one unlimited hydroplane race has been contested each year on the Detroit River.

The 2016 UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest kicks off with “FREE Friday” on August 26 at 1 p.m. and continues on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, 2016. Tickets are on-sale now. General grandstand tickets start at $50; ITC Club Gold Cup access is $180 and includes catering provided by Andiamo and also offers the best views of the race.
