Seattle Seafair – home of the Albert Lee Cup at Seafair – was recently named winner of the BEST FAIR/FESTIVAL category for 2012 in the prestigious annual awards presented by Special Events Magazine.
Seafair’s competition for the award included the biggest community celebrations from around the world with the other two finalists coming from Louisiana and California.
The Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane series has been the centerpiece of Seafair since 1951, drawing some the biggest crowds on record for sporting events in the USA.
H1 Chairman Sam Cole said, “The ANG H1 Unlimited Series is proud to be part of the Best Fair/Festival on the planet and thrilled to see our friends at Seafair rewarded with their industry’s most prestigious award for the incredible job they do year after in producing a great event. Congratulations to Beth Knox, Eric Corning, Melissa Jurcan and the whole Seafair team for a big job very well done!”
In addition to featuring the World’s Fastest Race Boats and an appearance by the US Navy Blue Angels, Seafair is an eight-week festival that brings the community together with more than 75 events that touch more than 2 million people.
Signature events include the Torchlight Parade with more than 1,000 walkers, Fleet Week, a marathon with 27,000 runners, and the Pirates Landing, where more than 10,000 locals descend on Alki Beach to watch the famed Seafair pirates land and take over the city.
The 2013 Albert Lee Cup at Seafair featuring the Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series will take place on Seattle’s Lake Washington August 2-5, 2013.
